Ulladulla to Bawley Point
26 km (1389 km) 9 hr
Headed out at dawn to Rennies Beach Lookout followed by some sunrise reflection (and coffee) at South Pacific Headland. Nice network of tracks from the southern edge of Rennies towards South Pacific Beach (more rockshelf than beach at its northern end).
A drizzly gray sky provided a beautiful band of orange glow at the horizon, and despite the wisdom of shepherds, the day was mostly bright and sunny
Around the rocks to excellent Racecourse Beach and then Blackburn Headland which is the southern terminus of the 'Headlands Walk' that begins at Narawallee - a top notch, hassle free coast walk.
Next was Burrill Beach with Dolphin Point just a short swim across the entrance to Burrill Lake. I did it near the shoreline on an incoming tide. Lots of signs warning of the dangers of crossing on an outflowing tide though, as it creates a kind of double strength rip. If you want a safe dry crossing the Prince's Highway Bridge is not too far inland on the northern side (although maybe 2 km longer to get back to Dolphin Point on the southern shore).
I then took the Pot Holes track to splendidly isolated Pot Holes Beach. Next was the Lagoon Head track and the Point Nor East trail from where there is access to the northern tip of 5 km long Wairo Beach. 100 points to NPWS for excellent signage in what might otherwise be a confusing section of bush.
Wairo Beach is just a perfect, near-untouched stretch of south coast perfection ending at the entrance to Lake Tabourie.
Lake Tabourie is open at the moment - a waste deep crossing with a bit of a current on a falling tide, but all pretty straightforward and I didn't mind the midday dip with the sun on my back.
Then it was an easy stretch of sand along Tabourie Beach and then around the rockshelf to Sunburnt Beach (nice name!). A bush track across Termeil Point followed and then a wade across the open lakes before gorgeous Termeil Beach. Another beautiful well-signposted track out to Meroo Head (the semicircularcular cove below Meroo Head Lookout doesn't rate an official name but it's a little slice of magic) and then over to what is presumably Nuggan Beach. Took the Nuggan Point Walking Track out to the spectacular Nuggan Point and then it was North Beach and a dry crossing of Willinga Lake to Willinga Point. Finally Bawley Beach and Bawley Point where I'm staying tonight. Just another jaw-dropping day of 'coasting'. Stupendous!
