Congo to Tuross Head
19 km (1501 km) 7 hr
A short walk from my place to Congo Creek which was dressed to kill in the dawn light. Then it was on to Congo Lookout and the rock platform below for yet another crystal clear sunrise. A stroll along South Congo beach and then a short detour inland to the start of the Bingi Dreaming Track.
The track wended its way over a few jagged cliffs and past a couple of micro-beaches with steep up and down access. Especially loved the views out to Mullimburra Point from each of the headland lookouts on this northern part of the walk.
Koonwarra-Parkers and Meringo Beaches are two of those 'don't tell anyone' kind of places and were a pleasure to explore.
I diverted from the Dreaming Track to take the path out to Mullimburra Point and sensational Family/Honeymoon Beach and it's dramatic cousin, Cathedral Beach, both exquisite little south coast coves with many perfect alcoves along their awesome rocky sides.
Followed my own dreaming and stayed with the beaches to Grey Rocks where, after another 'Gipfelschmaus', I continued on to Kellys Beach and sensational Bingi Bingi (or Bingie Bingie) Point - what a sublime rocky peninsula - definitely in the headland oscars running.
BTW Bingi Bingi means a full stomach - nice to know that folk have been enjoying their own 'Gipfelschmaus' here for many thousands of years.
Easy enough to cross over from Bingi Bingi Point to Coila Beach which is a lovely stretch of golden sands all the way to Tuross Head across the Coila Lake Bar. After a few little beaches in Tuross I finished up today with a divine beer looking out from One Tree Point.
Great day for wildlife, plenty of kangaroos, a wallaby, a few whales offshore and some seals taking care of seal business off the tip of Bingi, along with loads of birdlife including black cockatoos, oyster catchers, terns, lorrikeets galore and a few herons and other seabirds.
As a rock fisherman I was chatting to at Grey Rocks said; 'life just doesn't get any better than this!'
